textimony: a hybrid sewing circle

an event organized to share the work of the sewing circle Mujeres Haciendo Memoria (Women Making Memory) based in Bogotá, and their work around testimonies of war and gender violence victims. 

The women shared the story behind many of the textiles they had produced in Bogotá, inviting a reflection on memory making and the role of art. Then, attendees to the event in Los angeles were invited to make their own story into a little square that the women then quilted in Bogotá. 

Questions were shared on the materiality of textiles, how each person carries their own story, and how we can preserve memory.
